A VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WITH A PREVENTATIVE FOCUS

For people over the age of 60, life is a time of change and transition: physical, mental and often emotional. For some, it is not an easy time and it helps to have someone who knows how to listen.

Peer Counselors offer supportive counseling to elders within Franklin County and the North Quabbin area. Individuals who qualify for Elder Peer Counseling Services.

People Having General Difficulties With Aging
People Struggling with Losses
People in the Early Stages of Cognitive Loss
Caregivers of Alzheimer’s Disease Patients

Our Elder Peer Counseling volunteers range in age from their 50’s to their 80’s and come from all walks of life. All elder Peer Counselors go through an intensive six week training course to learn about basic counseling skills, aging issues, and resources available to elders in the community.

Our Elder Peer Counselors ease the stress of major life transitions and losses by empowering their clients to have as full satisfying a life possible. Through their own example, our Peer Counselors help guide others through the inevitable adjustments associated with aging.

Our Elder Peer Counseling Service is free of charge, however intakes and periodic check-ins are performed by professional therapists and are billable to Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.
