CSS has been providing intensive, mobile outreach services to adults with
mental illness since 1992 and is proud of its proven track record of being able to engage
consumers who have historically rejected services for a variety of reasons. While
CSS is a therapeutic service, it is separate and distinct from psychotherapy services,
employing a hands on, pragmatic approach to services delivery geared towards helping those
with mental illness to live more successfully in the community.

CSS operates on the
core belief that respect for the struggles, strengths, and capabilities of the consumer,
combined with an aggressive, directive treatment philosophy are the key ingredients that
facilitate change. Services provided are based on an atmosphere of safety and
predictability to help consumers live independently in the community.
The services provided
by CSS are based on a psychosocial rehabilitation model of service delivery, and a
treatment philosophy which operates under the assumption that individuals with mental
illness can lead productive, meaningful and satisfying lives if they are given the
appropriate supports and tools. Providing safety and predictability, while employing
interventions that help individuals manage symptoms effectively, and teach consumers the
skills needed to live successfully in the community represents the core of the model.
To this end, the program offers services in a manner that both literally an
figuratively "meets the consumer where they are", be it in their home, the
clubhouse, or over a cup of coffee. The goal of services is to foster contact
between the consumer and the community in a non-threatening way as possible.
